213th Aero Pursuit Squadron

"The Two Hundred Thirteenth Squadron was a pursuit squadron. It was assigned to the First Army on August 4th, 1918, having reached the front at Vaucouleurs July 26th, preceding. It was engaged in operations in the Toul Sector, at St. Mihiel and in the Argonne first and second offensives. This squadron made 148 raids into German territory, fought 38 combats and received official confirmation for 16 victories. It suffered 10 casualties consisting of 2 killed, 3 wounded, 4 taken prisoner and 1 missing. It ceased operations on April 10th, 1919." 

The casualty count in the above article does not include the 6 soldiers of the 213th Aero Squadron that were killed as a result of enemy action against the troopship Tuscania. 

 

1st Army Shoulder Patch,  A black letter "A" was approved as the authorized insignia by the Commanding General, American Expedition Force, on November 16, 1918 and approved by the War Department on May 27, 1922.
