100th Aero Squadron - Private

Knights Ferry Boy Was Exempt, But Volunteered
San Francisco Chronicle - Friday February 13, 1918

Stanley L. Collins of Knights Ferry and Oakdale California, was one of the men lost on the Tuscania. He was 23 years of age and a native of Knights Ferry. His father Ernest S. Collins is Postmaster at the Ferry, and the boy was assistant Postmaster, and under the rulings of the War Department, exempt from the draft. The boy, however, refused even to take a chance on being exempted and volunteered his services four months ago, joining the 100th Aero Squadron in order that he might see active service. His brother Nelson Collins, who was in the Engineering class at Stanford, joined the Engineering Corps and is now in service in France. The two boys are the only children of the Collins. Mrs. Collins is prostrated by the news of her son's death.
