My Grandfather was one of the survivors
of the Tuscania. As I recollect, he told stories of how the Irishmen came to
his daring rescue. My Grandpa was Mike Guthrie, he was in the 20th
Engineers, Company F of the U.S. Army. His family was Irish and
sometimes spelled their surname "Guttry." He lived a long life in Deer River, Minnesota, and worked for
the U.S. Forestry Service.
I will try and find a picture of my Grandfather to contribute to your site.
